Anyone charging money for driving lessons in the UK must legally be either a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) on the official DVSA register, or a supervised trainee known as a PDI (Provisional Driving Instructor) working under a trainee licence. The two are easy to tell apart at a glance: ADIs display a green badge in the car windscreen, while PDIs display a pink badge. ADIs are also graded by the DVSA on a scale from their periodic Standards Check assessment.
